The small Leicestershire village of Earl Shilton lies 5 miles from Hinckley and just 10 miles from Leicester. In the middle of the 18th century it staged a series of race meetings, the first of which took place on Wednesday 23rd June 1742. The feature race was the £30 Plate which saw Bonny Bachelor fend off the challenge of Squirt. Racing continued in the village until a final meeting on Thursday 6th June 1745.
